Signs Your Alternator Needs Attention

Think of your alternator as the little generator that keeps your battery charged and ready to go. If you notice any of the following happening, your alternator may have a problem:

Dim Dash Lights: Your alternator keeps your battery charged so your dash lights stay bright and things like your radio and GPS work well. If you notice your dash lights are dimmer than usual or your accessories aren't working like they should, your alternator may be responsible.

Frequent Battery Jumps: Because your alternator keeps the battery charged, if it isn't working right, your battery may not be strong enough to start your car. If you find yourself needing frequent jumps, it's a good idea to bring your car to any of our stores for an alternator inspection.

Battery Light on Dash: If your battery is holding a charge when tested, and you've ruled out an electrical short, your alternator is likely on the outs.

Strange Noises: If you hear a rattling noise when your alternator is working (for example, when starting your car), bring your car in to any of our stores for an alternator inspection. It could mean the spinning parts inside the alternator that produce electrical current need to be repaired or replaced.

If you notice any of these, limit your use of accessories (radio, GPS, iPod, etc.), avoid unnecessary driving, and bring your car to any of our stores for an inspection.
